Following the committee decision made by the cabinet to pre-book the coronavirus vaccine from the Chinese company, the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) has been told to establish a district and tehsil headquarter along with regional health center to ensure that people are getting the vaccines on time. There will be a training session for the health workers around the provinces and in the federal capital as well. But, there is a question circling around everywhere in Pakistan about the timeframe of vaccine.
Who will be vaccinated first?
It will be carried out in stages:
- In stage 1, all the frontline workers in the health industry are going to be vaccinated as they are the one facing the virus on daily basis.
- In stage 2, all the people above the age of 65 is going to be vaccinated as they have the weakest immune system.
- In stage 3, all other healthcare workers in various industries are going to be vaccinated especially those in the age bracket of 60-64
The health care workers are always at the highest risk of getting the virus through patients, therefore it is necessary to treat them with priority.
What about the rest of the people?
The forum conveyed the message that NCOC is getting in collaboration with the (NADRA) National Database and Registration Authority and (NITB) National Information Technology Board to develop the (NIMS) National Immunisation Management System. It is an online portal that is going to serve as the Brain behind the process of handling vaccination.
The cabinet committee decided that the pre-booking of corona vaccine will be ensured by NIMS as they will handle the supply chain management and administration of the COVID-19 vaccine.
How is NADRA helping?
The system created by NIMS will be enabled through phases of registration for the citizens as they will be next in line to get vaccinated through SMS. Based on their CNIC numbers, the immunization technology with used for citizens only. People will be notified once the vaccine is available at their nearest vaccination center.
Is the vaccine effective?
The special cabinet committee after meeting with Chinese state-owned company announced that the vaccine for COVID-19 is going to be 79% effective which is fairly a good ration considering that the death toll in Pakistan has surpassed the 11,000 mark.
The final decision is however in wait for the approval of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (Drap) which is working on few tests before they give a go-ahead. Once it is passed, everything Pakistani will benefit from the vaccine and we will together as a nation fight to eradicate this pandemic from the country.
